What Do School and a Tire Have in Common?

What do School and a Tire have in common? They both blow!!.  I got back to school at buffalo state on monday and in my first class the teacher changed the book we need after I already bought it. I was pissed. My 925 first class time forces me to park on the other side of Grant Street. I prolly need a shuttle to get on campus. And my tire randomly blew to hell this morning while I was on the thruway. I had to pull over and change it with the assitance of the fine Lawley Services Sales Rep. Dave Bett and a really weird highway mantinence man who coined the now famous phrase, “i’m gonna need a bigger hammer.” The wonderful staff at BJ’s Wholesale Club put two new tires on care of my gorgeous mother. So the main theme is that school and tires both blow.

Two Straight Victories

25 08 2006

With Solid efforts from the now healthy JP Losman and Willis McGahee the Madden Bills were able to pick up wins in Miami and in the home opener against the Jets. The wins make the Bills 2-1 on the season as well as in the division. Buffalo will enter week 4 in a two way tie for first in the east with new york.

Two missed extra points were the difference in a very close season opener between the Bills and the Patriots. Kelly Holcomb got the start today with the injury to Losman. Two early touchdown passes by Holcomb looked to take New England out of it, but two extra kept them in it. A Rian Lindell field goal made it 15-0, but a Tom Brady touchdown pass before the half made it 15-7. Both offenses were ineffective in the second half until the last three minutes of regulation. An erroent Holcomb pass was intercepted by Rodney Harrison and brought all the way back for a touchdown. This made it a 15-13 game, but a missed two-point conversion and an unsuccessful on-side kick seemed to seel the deal for Buffalo. Poor clock management by Kelly Holcomb forced  the Bills into  a tough decision.  New bills head coach Dick Jauron  had to choose between kicking the 55 yard field, go for it on 4th and 1, or punt. Jauron made his first major decision by opting to punt. It seemed to work when the Patriots were pinned back at  their own 4 yard line. A big fourth down connection to Deion Branch set Tom Brady and the Patriots up at the 28 yard line. A Martin Gramatica field goal ended the game and left the Bills feeling like they lost a perfect opportunity to pick up a divisional win.

Ramsey Murder Finally Solved!

Apparently in an effort to end my constant nightmares, John Mark Karr (above), has finally been caught in connection with the murder of JonBenet Ramsey over ten years ago. The former american school teacher was found in Bangkok, Thailand and said that he was with the 6- year old when she died. He called the death “an accident,” and at one point was asked if he was innocent of the crimes. His response to that question, “no.”  He tried to convince Police that it was not first degree murder and that she died during a kidinapping effort that went wrong. It a shocking admission Karr pointed out that he was “in love with the child, she was a pageant queen.”

This news came only months after the death of JonBenet’s mother Patsy to cancer. Hopefully this will put to rest all the remakes, documentaries, and  real-life Hallmark, CBS movies. Also, maybe I can get some sleep.

Random TV: Wings
This is the sixth show in our series on Random TV throughout history

Wings was an NBC sitcom from 1990 to 1997. The show featured brothers Joe and Brian Hackett. The two owned and operated Sandpiper airlines. The easiest way to describe it is, Cheers in an airport. The show was set at the fictional Tom Nevers Field, a small airport in Massachussets. Just as in Cheers the show featured airport regulars such as Helen, Fay, Roy, Antonio, and Lowell. The show actually featured guest appearences by Cheers characters.

In 2006 seasons 1-3 became available on DVD.

Owens is a Total Joke

It was about this time last year that Terrell Owens was doing sit ups in his driveway and proclaiming the now famous phrase, “No comment.” Fast Forward one year and Owens has missed 14 consecutive practice at Dallas camp has been seen running top speed sprints on his own without the team. Owens has a supposed hamstring injury but has been seen totally healthy. Frustration has set in with teammates like Drew Bledsoe and Jason Witten. One thing is for sure, Owens is not a team player and never has been. This shouldnt be a surprising situation but for reason it is. It is not fair to the players on the field who are getting banged up and working hard. Owens has been hurting the team by riding a bike on the sideline with a smile on his face. If this situation continues, look for the big tuna to get real upset and don’t be surprised to once again see Owens forced to make a public apology. The man is a joke and not a team player. He has great talent at at the same time has been a total waste of that talent. He is getting old and hopefully soon all teams realize how big of a mess he is and stop giving him chances.

Panthers Nip Bills, 14-13

13 08 2006

A dissapointing effort from the Bills 1st team offense and defense led to a quick 14-0 hole for the Bills Saturday night in Charlotte. Holcomb threw an interception that was brought back for a touchdown. The field was a yellow sea as the officals were overly generous with the penalty flags. The backups brought the Bills back along with two nice field goals by Rian Lindell. Kliff Kingsbury couldnt seel the deal for Buffalo with a chance to win in the fourth quarter. J.P. Losman was the QB for most of the evening and didnt to anything to shock anybody. San Aiken made plays on special teams and as a formitable receiving threat. With a major battle for wide outs spots, Aiken is trying to earn his.  In fashion news, the Bills are now wearing black shoes and annouced that they will be wearing their throwback jerseys in the home opener along with the home game in December against San Diego.

This is the seventh installment of our 8 week Bills position breakdown, getting you ready for the 2006 season of Buffalo football

Position: Offensive Line
Contenders: Mike Gandy, Matt Morgan, Terrance Pennington, Tutan Reyes, Greg Jerman, Jason Thomas, Melvin Fowler, Justin Geisinger, Aaron Merz, Chris Villarial, Duke Preston, Aaron Gibson, Jason Peters, Brad Butler, Dylan McFarland

Breakdown: Its been a long long long time since O- line has not been one of the major questions going into a season for Buffalo. It seems for right now that Jim McNally has taken his time to mold a unit that he can teach and be proud of. Jason Peters (above) is the corner stone of the line at right tackle. Peters has gone from an undrafted tight end to the best big man McNally has ever seen. The offseason pickups of Tutan Reyes and Melvin Fowler were very underrated. They will both be durable and dependable. Chris Villarial will be hearing the footsteps of Duke Preston at right guard as Preston is finally coming into his own. Former first round pick Aaron Gibson also joined the Bills this summer. Gibson strolled in at a modest 6′7”, 371 LBs. He is big but has had attitude issues which is why is currently third on the right guard depth chart. It is very possible that this could be the last season in Buffalo for Willis McGahee so look for him to put in one heck of campaign thanks to an offensive line that is greatly improved.

NFC South

10 08 2006

Carolina Panthers

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Atlanta Falcons

(photos courtesy of profootballweekly.com)

This is the third installment taking a good look at the eight divisions in the NFL

DIVISION: NFC South

DEFENDING CHAMP: Buccaneers

BREAKDOWN: With Carolina’s journey all the way to the championship game last season its hard to believe they didnt win the division. With Tampa Bay’s exit in the first round, its even harder to believe they won the division. Carolina looks to once again be among the favorites to win it all, and why not. They return sturdy veteran QB Jake Delhomme and big play receiver Steve Smith. It will be interesting to see how Smiths personality meshes with free agent loud-mouth aquistion, Keyshawn Johnson. Their defense will continue to be punishing with guys like Julius Peppers and their coaching will always be good with John Fox. The Bucs could be one of those team who has sucess one season and goes straight down the next. Chris Simms at QB will continue to be a question mark. Their running game should be solid with second year man Carnell Williams. Outside of bringing in Miami castoff David Boston to upgrade a shaky receiving core, they did not make many offseason moves. Mike Alstott could be in his last year but continues to be a tough fullback.

The Atlanta “Vicks” are coming off a dissapointing 8-8 campaign a year ago. Critics continue to trash QB Michael Vick on his throwing ability or lack their of. They have brought in former Bill Lawyer Milloy to play safety but dont be surprised to see him fail them as he has lost a step. Jimmy Williams out of Virgina Tech hopes to help a struggling defensive unit. The New Orleans Saints will reopen the doors of the Superdome this year and will play of their home games in New Orleans. Hurricane Katrina not only forced change for the people of Louisana but also for the Saints organization. They fired head coach Jim Haslett and longtime QB Aaron Brooks. Along with that they drafted everyones assumed #1 pick, RB Reggie Bush and aquired QB Drew Brees from the Chargers. Bush will compliment veteran Duece McCallister and create a real running threat. New head coach Sean Payton hopes to bring in a young, fresh approach.

Division Winner: Carolina Panthers
