Week 15: @ CLEVELAND BROWNS

5 09 2007

There are 5 days between now and the start of the 2007 Buffalo Bills Season. Once a week we will be previewing each game.

Date: December 16th, 2007

Time: 1:00 pm TV: CBS RADIO: 97 Rock, The Edge

Location: Cleveland Browns Stadium (Cleveland, OH)

All time series : CLEVELAND 5-8

Last Meeting: 2004 @ BUF BUF 37-7

Browns Key Additions: QB Brady Quinn (R), OT Joe Thomas(R), RB Jamal Lewis, OG Eric Steinbech

Browns Key Losses: WR Dennis Northcutt

Breakdown:It looks like a late season northeast matchup between the bills and browns. This could be a real dog game but if the Bills are where I think they will be this will be a must win. They should be right in the playoff and it looks like Brady Quinn will be in charge of the Browns at this time. Cleveland is very much a rebuilding team and have a lot of pieces in place. Look for them to be a real contender in ‘08 but not ‘07. Look for the Buffalo Offense to take over in this matchup.

Prediction: Bills 34-10

Week 14: Miami

28 08 2007

There are 2 weeks between now and the start of the 2007 Buffalo Bills Season. Once a week we will be previewing each game.

Date: December 9th, 2007

Time: 1:00 pm TV: CBS RADIO: 97 Rock, The Edge

Location: Ralph Wilson Stadium (Orchard Park, NY)

All time series : Miami 50-35-1

Last Meeting: 2006 @ BUF BUF 21-0

Dolphins Key Additions: QB Trent Green, WR Ted Ginn Jr, LB Joey Porter

Dolphins Key Losses: QB Daunte Culpepper, RB Sammy Morris

Breakdown: It looks as if recently the Bills seem to take it to Miami at home and play well. The game is later on in the season so don’t look for the heat to play that much of a factor cause it will probably be snowing! Trent Green does not solve the Dolphins troubles at QB and is a stop gap if anything. I maybe the only person on the planet who considers their defense to be overrated. Joey Porter should make them better, but their secondary is where the trouble is and they did not fix it in the offseason. Their offense should continue to be decent with the added speed of Ted Ginn Jr. Ronnie Brown hopes to have a bounce back year but him and his Auburn backfield buddy Cadillac Williams are both having trouble after very good rookie years.

For the Bills it will take a solid effort on all sides of the ball. That being said I do believe they are the better team all around and I expect the game to be close.

Prediction: Bills 21-20

Week 13: @ Washington

21 08 2007

There are 3 weeks between now and the start of the 2007 Buffalo Bills Season. Once a week we will be previewing each game.

Date: December 2, 2007

Time: 1:00 pm TV: CBS RADIO: 97 Rock, The Edge

Location: Fedex Field (Landover,MD)

All time series :Buffalo 6-5

Last Meeting: 2003 @ BUF — BUF 24-7

Washington Key Additions: WR Todd Pinkston, S LaRon Landry  , LB London Fletcher

Washington Key Losses: OG Derrick Dockery, K John Hall, WR David Patten

Breakdown: This past offseason the Bills and Redskins exhanged big time free agents. LB London Fletcher went to Washington and OG Derrick Dockery went to the Bills. The jury is still out on which team made out better. Going into ‘07 the Redskins have decided to switch to young Jason Campbell at QB, and leave veteran Mark Brunell on the bench. However, by week 13, who knows who will be at the helm. Running back Clinton Portis was banged up last season which allowed backup Ladell Betts to shine and now it seems the two will be splitting time. The defensive will continue to be coached by Greg Williams who always seems to put a very good unit on the field, and with the additions of Fletcher and rookie safety LaRon Landry, they will only be better. Every year it seems the Bills lose a few games they should of won. Expect this game to be one where they just don’t show up. Just think of it as a tribute to Detroit from last year.

Prediction: Redskins 17-10

Week 12: @ Jacksonville

14 08 2007

There are 4 weeks between now and the start of the 2007 Buffalo Bills Season. Once a week we will be previewing each game.

Date:November 25, 2007

Time: 1:00 pm TV: CBS RADIO: 97 Rock, The Edge

Location: Jacksonville Municipal Stadium (Jacksonville, FL)

All time series :Buffalo 4-3

Last Meeting: 2006 @ BUF — BUF 27-24

Jacksonville Key Additions: S Sammy Knight,

Jacksonville Key Losses: S Donovin Darius, TE Kyle Brady

Breakdown: The last time these two team me, Roscoe Parrish was a thorn in the side of Jaguars. He returned a punt return and then made a tight rope catch on the sideline that setup the game winning field goal. Jacksonville will have problems at the Quarterback position with Jack Del Rio being at odds with veteran Byron Leftwich. The running backs are still very very good with Jones-Drew and and Taylor. Henderson and Stroud will continue to anchor the defense but their secondary is suspect. I expect a well fought matchup between these two teams that will both be in the playoff hunt come week 12.

Prediction: Bills 28-20

Week 11: New England

7 08 2007

There are 5 weeks between now and the start of the 2007 Buffalo Bills Season. Once a week we will be previewing each game.

Date:November 18, 2007

Time: 1:00 pm TV: CBS RADIO: 97 Rock, The Edge

Location: Ralph Wilson Stadium (Buffalo, NY)

All time series :New England 40-53-2

Last Meeting: 2006 @ BUF — NE 28-6

New England Key Additions: LB Adalius Thomas, WR’s Randy Moss, Donte Stallworth, Kelley Washington, Wes Welker, TE Kyle Brady, RB Sammy Morris

New England Key Losses: CB Asante Samuel (Holdout), RB Corey Dillon, TE Daniel Graham

Breakdown:The Bills have struggled with Patriots at home, on the road, on Mars, and basically everywhere. In fact the Bills have lost their last seven to the Pats and have not beaten them since the opening game of the 2003 season. During the offseason New England has only gotten better and look for them to continue their greatness. Behind quarterback Tom Brady, who now has four new recieving threats, they will make a charge for a fourth Super Bowl.As the four the young Bills they will be going into the veteran buzz saw that is Foxborough,Mass. Without Asante Samuel the Pats secondary will be decitmated and J.P. Losman will look to capitalize with his many recieving threats. The Bills will have trouble defensively as will every other team that plays New England. Sophmore Lawerence Moreny will grow into an elite running back and the Bills were not one of the teams that faired well against him last season. On paper this looks like a total mismatch and in the end it may be just that.

Prediction: New England 24-10

Week 10: @Miami

31 07 2007

There are 5 weeks between now and the start of the 2007 Buffalo Bills Season. Once a week we will be previewing each game.

Date: November 11th, 2007

Time: 1:00 pm TV: CBS RADIO: 97 Rock, The Edge

Location: Pro Player Stadium (Miam, Fl)

All time series : Miami 50-35-1

Last Meeting: 2006 @ BUF BUF 21-0

Dolphins Key Additions: QB Trent Green, WR Ted Ginn Jr, LB  Joey Porter

Dolphins Key Losses: QB Daunte Culpepper, RB Sammy Morris

Breakdown: It looks as if recently the Bills seem to go into Miami and play well. The game is later on in the season so don’t look for the heat to play that much of a factor.

For the Bills it will take a solid effort on all sides of the ball. That being said I do believe they are the better team all around and I expect the game to be close.

Prediction: Bills 21-17

There are 6 weeks between now and the start of the 2007 Buffalo Bills Season. Once a week we will be previewing each game.

Date: November 4th, 2007

Time: 1:00 pm TV: CBS RADIO: 97 Rock, The Edge

Location: Ralph Wilson Stadium (Orchard Park, NY)

All time series : Buffalo 13-11

Last Meeting: 2005 @ CIN BUF 37-27

Bengals Key Additions: CB Leon Hall(R), RB Kenny Irons (R)

Bengals Key Losses: LB A.J. Nicholson, OG Eric Steinbeck,

Breakdown: It is starting to becoming obvious that the Bengals will be a real sleeper team going into ‘07. Last years letdown can be contributed to the teams revolving door at the cincinnati police department. It obvious that it had an effect on the team. The talent that made them a Super Bowl contender 2 years ago is still there with pro bowlers Carson Palmer and Chad Johnson. Defensively it does not look like they have improved enough. The x factor in this contest with the Bills will be the fact that the Bills have had the Bengals number recently, winning the last eight meetings between the two. Look for the trend to continue as losman and the gang reach their midseason groove.

prediction: Bills 28-17

Week 8: @ New York Jets

17 07 2007

There are 7 weeks between now and the start of the 2007 Buffalo Bills Season. Once a week we will be previewing each game.

Date:  October 28th, 2007

Time: 4:00 pm TV: CBS RADIO: 97 Rock, The Edge

Location: Giants Stadium (New York, NY)

All time series : Buffalo 51-42

Last Meeting: 2006 @ NYJ— BUF 31-13

Jets Key Additions: RB Thomas Jones, QB Marques Tuiasosopo, CB Darelle Revis

Jets Key Losses: QB Patrick Ramsey

Breakdown:  Coming into 2007, it looks as if the Jets are pretty much the same team that they were in “06. The only major change will come at the running back in the form of Bears castoff, Thomas Jones (above). Jones ran for 1200 yards with Chicago last season and will add a whole different demension to a very quick New York offense ran by veteran, Chad Pennington. The Jets reached the playoffs last year but were taken out by the Patriots. Although they beat the Bills in week three, the Bills handled them in week 14.

For the Bills to come away with a victory they will have to do most of the same things that found success for them early on in the season. Lots of pressure on Chad Pennington will go a long way to break up his very quick dunk and dink passing game. Also, they will need to exploit an average secondary will good protection for J.P. Losman. In the end, look for the Bills to pick up where they left off in week 4.

Prediction: 24-21 Buffalo

Week 7: Baltimore Ravens

There are 10 weeks between now and the start of the 2007 Buffalo Bills Season. Once a week we will be previewing each game.

Date: Monday October 21st, 2007

Time: 1:00 pm TV: CBS RADIO: 97 Rock, The Edge

Location: Ralph Wilson Stadium (Orchard Park, NY)

All time series :Baltimore 2-1
Last Meeting: 2006 @ BAL— BAL 19-7

Ravens Key Additions:RB Willis McGahee, OG  Ben Grubbs(R)
Ravens Key Losses: RB Jamal Lewis, LB Adalius Thomas

Breakdown: The Bills ended last season on a tough note with a loss to the Baltimore Ravens. At that point the two teams were in opposite directions. The game played in Baltimore included many Bills that were already mentally on the golf course. Going into 2007 it looks as if the Ravens have only gotten better with the exchange of Jamal Lewis for Willis McGahee. McGahee makes them younger and faster at the running back position. Defensively Baltimore on paper looks to have gotten older and slower but I’m sure they will continue to be good. Recently Steve McNair’s drunk driving charges were dropped so don’t expect that to be a distraction.

The Bills have an edge with the game being at home and the attitude of the crowd going into the return of Willis McGahee to western new york.  However, look for the Ravens to be just a bit too much for the Bills to handle.

Prediction: Baltimore 28-17

Week 6: Bye Week

3 07 2007

With week six being the bye week I thought I would go over some random sports thoughts to pass the time in the rough week without Bills football. At this point according to jakebett.com the Bills will be 3-2 going into a huge swing game at home against the Baltimore Ravens and Willis McGahee. Who will win, find out next week.

-Forget about Drury and Briere because frankly you have to cause they are both gone. The man pictured above is who you need to make sure stays. Im not a big sabres or hockey fan but he led your team in goals and is the future. Some team in the next few weeks is gonna offer him the moon and if you can’t match it, he is gonezo and you get a draft pick parting gift, thanks for playin’.

-Stop worrying about the Yanks. Maybe they wont make the playoffs, but they are still the Yanks. They are the most storied franchise in all of sports and I will always be proud to be a fan.

- For some reason, I am not a big fan of the Bulls pick of Joakim Noah. Chicago is a real team with no loud mouths, just a bunch of team guys. For some reason I think this dancing fool will ruin everything.

-Andy Roddick is now taking lessons for his new coach, and former Wimbeldon champion, Jimmy Connors. Stop me if I’m but I don’t think Jimmy can take the Brady on Payton effect out of the psychological hold that Roger Federer has had over the young man. He has beaten him twice in the final and according to Roddick the number one thing Connors has stressed on him is winning. Good Luck Andy. By the way that was tennis talk.

-I don’t enjoy auto racing in any way.
