As I lay in my bed last night, flipping around the channels, I came upon ESPN. They were getting ready to pick up the feed of the Nats-Giants game with the bat of Barry Bonds upcoming. I did not think about steroids, their affect on the game or anything else like that. I thought, wow, wouldn’t it be cool to watch history happen. To be able to say, yeah I saw him hit 756. When he hit that homer on a 3-2 pitch I cheered and clapped. The fact of the matter is a bottle of steroids does not come with a complimentary 756 home runs. Someone still needs to go out and swing the bat. This man should be appreciated for his accomplishment.

Week 6: Bye Week

3 07 2007

With week six being the bye week I thought I would go over some random sports thoughts to pass the time in the rough week without Bills football. At this point according to jakebett.com the Bills will be 3-2 going into a huge swing game at home against the Baltimore Ravens and Willis McGahee. Who will win, find out next week.

-Forget about Drury and Briere because frankly you have to cause they are both gone. The man pictured above is who you need to make sure stays. Im not a big sabres or hockey fan but he led your team in goals and is the future. Some team in the next few weeks is gonna offer him the moon and if you can’t match it, he is gonezo and you get a draft pick parting gift, thanks for playin’.

-Stop worrying about the Yanks. Maybe they wont make the playoffs, but they are still the Yanks. They are the most storied franchise in all of sports and I will always be proud to be a fan.

- For some reason, I am not a big fan of the Bulls pick of Joakim Noah. Chicago is a real team with no loud mouths, just a bunch of team guys. For some reason I think this dancing fool will ruin everything.

-Andy Roddick is now taking lessons for his new coach, and former Wimbeldon champion, Jimmy Connors. Stop me if I’m but I don’t think Jimmy can take the Brady on Payton effect out of the psychological hold that Roger Federer has had over the young man. He has beaten him twice in the final and according to Roddick the number one thing Connors has stressed on him is winning. Good Luck Andy. By the way that was tennis talk.

-I don’t enjoy auto racing in any way.

Ben Francisco

30 06 2007

All of us at jakebett.com would like to send out a special congrats to former Buffalo Bison and current Cleveland Indian Ben Francisco who hit his first major league hit and homer last night. The homer just happened to be a walkoff homer that ended the tribes game against Tampa Bay.

Joakim Noah in Chicago Red

29 06 2007

The image “http://www.gatorzone.com/basketball/men/images/bioimg2004/Noah_Joakim.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

Full Name: Joakim Simon Noah
Position: Forward/Center
Height/Weight: 6-11 / 232
Birthdate: February 25, 1985 (New York, N.Y.)
High School: Poly Prep Country Day School (Brooklyn, N.Y.), then The Lawrenceville School (Lawrenceville, N.J.)
College: Florida

Noah on coming to the Bulls:
“It’s a great group. I’ve been a fan of a lot of those guys. I can’t believe… Ben Wallace. I get to play with Ben Wallace! That’s awesome. I’m a big fan of Luol Deng and Ben Gordon and Kirk [Hinrich]. It’s a great situation. It’s a team that’s going to win a lot of basketball games and I can’t wait to be a part of it.”

With the ninth pick the NBA draft the bulls selected Joakim Noah. Apparently he does not fit needs but he does fit in the system which is, I guess, good enough for me. If you are not familar with Noah they take a look at this clip from CBS. It was taken right after Florida won the National Championship. Joakim is the one on the right side dancing like a wacko,

Barry Sticks Up for Mark and Pete

“I congratulate Cal Ripken Jr. and Tony Gwynn for their induction to the Hall of Fame because they were great ballplayers,” Bonds said Wednesday in the Dominican Republic. “But I also think McGwire and Pete Rose should be in Cooperstown.” This recent quote from barry bonds makes it obvious that he wants to come to the aid of his fellow baseball outcasts. Its no shock that the BALCO man came to help of bet on baseball man and steriod boy. The three of them should get together and become superheroes. They would become defenders of the universe and cheaters of the american pastime.

Owens is a Total Joke

It was about this time last year that Terrell Owens was doing sit ups in his driveway and proclaiming the now famous phrase, “No comment.” Fast Forward one year and Owens has missed 14 consecutive practice at Dallas camp has been seen running top speed sprints on his own without the team. Owens has a supposed hamstring injury but has been seen totally healthy. Frustration has set in with teammates like Drew Bledsoe and Jason Witten. One thing is for sure, Owens is not a team player and never has been. This shouldnt be a surprising situation but for reason it is. It is not fair to the players on the field who are getting banged up and working hard. Owens has been hurting the team by riding a bike on the sideline with a smile on his face. If this situation continues, look for the big tuna to get real upset and don’t be surprised to once again see Owens forced to make a public apology. The man is a joke and not a team player. He has great talent at at the same time has been a total waste of that talent. He is getting old and hopefully soon all teams realize how big of a mess he is and stop giving him chances.

Bob-o-suck golf outing

4 07 2006

Well I went out to the local golf course, Bob-o-links, made five pars and then proceeded to fall apart. I think my problem is I reach a point where I just don’t feel like golfing anymore and beyond that point anything can happen

I don’t want this to seem like I am not a fan of Bob links , It is an amazing par-3 golf course, I just dont play well
